Why?

Mission is part of being a Christian. Jesus told us to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age. (Matthew 28: 19-20). If we have been given a great treasure beyond imagination then how can we not share it According to the promises we made at baptism we commit ourselves to share the Good News of Jesus in words and actions. Jesus also told us, Matthew 25, to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, care for the sick, have compassion for the prisoners. Our commitment to mission and outreach is based on these commands and out of the love and the grace of God we ourselves have already received. smallgrouplogoWe at St Thomas have a vision to be a church of small groups. These groups may vary in focus but each is very intentional and committed to provide opportunities for relationship, discipleship, and evangelism. Our mission: To promote healthy relationships through small groups which empower people for ministry in Jesus Christ.

Four factors we recognize about small groups are:
People want to be in a group with other people they enjoy being around,
People want to focus on things in which they have an interest,
People want a way to leave a group without hurting the feelings of the others in the group,
People dont want their group to be arbitrarily split if it is too successful.

Small Groups can be anything from traditional Bible studies or prayers groups to basketball teams or guitar classes or any other interest group.

Time segments for the small groups begin usually at the beginning of summer, the beginning of fall and the beginning of spring.
